Backcountry “a sparsely populated rural region remote from a settled area.”

Fernie backcountry: The backcountry. The two words any mountain enthusiast will tell you can mean the most beautiful landscapes you’ll ever feast your eyes upon as well as possibily the most dangerous landscape you’ll encounter.

Lake Koocanusa is not strictly the backcountry, yet it offers great access to a pyramid of forestry service roads. One road will even lead you to the Canada-United States border, yet some miles away from the official border crossing at Roosville.

Fernie Backcountry: Jumping Jacks Waterfall is a popular Fernie backcountry spot. It is located on the trail to Bisaro Cave.

Fernie Backcountry: The backcountry of Fernie is an eclectic mix of mountains, lakes, waterfalls, and vibrant sunsets. For me, this makes Canada one of the best backpacking destinations in the world.

Fernie Backcountry: And come Fall the colours are simply beautiful, the backcountry comes alive in Fall.
